FERGUS FALLS, MN (nomadnews.i234.me) – A Crookston man has been sentenced to nearly 22 years in prison followed by 20 years of probation for producing images and videos showing the sexual abuse of a minor girl. Jorge Alberto Torres, Jr., 52, was arrested after the victim reported his actions to school officials and law enforcement.

Torres pleaded guilty on December 20, 2023, to one count of production of child pornography and admitted to other additional conduct constituting the production of child pornography. In handing down the sentence, Judge John Tunheim stated that Torres’ actions were “heinous” and showed a “callous disregard for the rights and dignity of others.”

The victim reported that Torres had been sexually assaulting and abusing them for several years, threatening and coercing them into submitting to his sexual demands. Law enforcement recovered multiple pictures and videos showing Torres’ sexual abuse of the minor victim and other child pornography from a hidden video camera placed in a bathroom used by the victim.

Torres asked a family member to hide or destroy an Android cell phone and the hidden video camera, but law enforcement was able to recover both devices. The investigation revealed that Torres had been producing child pornography for several years, including images of other children.

In addition to the prison sentence, Judge Tunheim ordered Torres to pay $50,000 in restitution to the victim and serve 20 years of supervised release upon completion of his prison term. Assistant U.S. Attorney Julie Allyn prosecuted the case.
